Our home by the woods…
… is a contemporary wooden house located right by the forest. The property is a 70m2 duplex, situated next to an independent rented apartment. You will have the duplex all to yourself and a very large private garden (1000m2) and terrace directly overlooking the forest for contemplating wild life and taking nice walks into the woods. The house can accommodate up to 2 people for a quiet stay close to nature. It is modern, bohemian and bright. The house is located on the outskirts of a charming hamlet in the heart of which runs a hiking trail which leads in 40 minutes to a beautiful 13th century church housing a Black Madonna. All amenities can be found nearby (local organic store 5 minutes drive away) and the Bordeaux-Sauveterre cycle path is less than one km away. We are close to many vineyards including Saint Émilion, 30mn from Bordeaux centre (Unesco Heritage).
The entrance opens onto a living room/kitchen on the ground floor with large windows giving a view of the surrounding fields and forest. The modern kitchen is equiped with marbled worktops, a large ceramic sink, furniture filled with vintage crockery, a new electric oven and a five-burner gas hob with extractor as well as a brand new retro fridge/freezer. We have a large designer kitchen table with modernist wooden stools for dining. The kitchen also holds a collection of cookbooks. There is a Bluetooth speaker that will allow you to listen to your favourite music. We will provide essential products to facilitate your arrival (oil, salt, pepper, washing up liquid). You will also have the opportunity to buy vegetable and fruit baskets from our neighbour’s garden if the season allows.
The bay window in the kitchen overlooks a big terrace opening onto a large private herbaceous garden. Deer and squirrels often pass by. The garden has furniture (vintage table and chairs) and a barbecue. Our location will delight nature lovers who can stroll right into the forest at our doorstep. We have rainwater collection basins in the garden where water lilies shelter frogs and where you can observe many dragonflies. Nestled in a corner of our wood, a small caravan with a double bed can accommodate two more people in the summer for an extra £20 per night. Contact us if you are interested, it will not be occupied during your stay and is reserved for you if you wish to use it.
The spacious upstairs bedroom with parquet flooring is equipped with a brand new comfortable king size 185x200 mattress mounted onto a wooden platform which will allow you to see the trees and the sky as soon as you wake up. A small open wardrobe will be at your disposal in the room. There is a bathroom upstairs, with a spacious brand new shower and a toilet. The bathroom also has a towel dryer/ heater and a hairdryer. The small parquet hallway and the staircase are full of interesting books in different languages.
The house is supplied with high speed brodband WiFi (if desired), an iron and ironing board, a vacuum cleaner, but we do not have a television or a washing machine or dryer (there is a laundry room with a laundry basin to wash clothes by hand and a rack to hang them dry). In winter, heating is provided by a very pretty, efficient and easy to light wood stove (wood will be provided at no extra cost). The house is very sunny and the temperature is pleasant because it is very well insulated (RT2012 regulations). On average it is 20 degrees Celsius in the house in winter. In summer, we have shutters and the house stays cool if we ventilate at night and close the windows during the day but we do not have AC. The wooden shutters create a very pleasant atmosphere for afternoon naps. During your stay, you will have access to a large private shaded parking space right next to the house and its entrance porch.
